An account of my time spent volunteering on shark research at the Bimini Biological Field Station in Bimini, Bahamas

Another Incomplete Update

How much can i type in 4 minutes I have left in my alloted internet time?...

Here's the rundown: In the past 3 weeks, I've been longlining, seine netting, spearfishing, and body surfing. I've stood in a pen with 4 lemon sharks circling me. I've held a lemon shark upside down to put it in tonic immobility (sleep). I've painted the bottom of a 24-ft boat with anti-barnacle paint. I've sat on the bow of a boat with a hydrophone listening to tagged sharks' transmitters for a total of about 30 hours. I've battened down for Hurricane Rita. I've learned to dock a boat and care for the engine. I've been head-butted by a lemon shark in ankle-deep water. I've snorkeled on a plane wreck. I've helped test an experimental shark repellent. I've been on 3 shark dives with a dozen 5-6ft reef sharks. I've been caught in a squall. I've been bitten by a pelican 6 times.

And that's the end of my 4 minutes...

(I'm having the time of my life!)
